We're looking for an experienced Java Lead Engineer to guide a high-performing, cross-functional team focused on improving travel changes and cancellations for customers.

🎯 Responsibilities

1. Lead a cross-functional agile team of 7-10 software engineers and developers, setting goals, prioritising work, and ensuring high performance
2. Collaborate with Product, Business, Architecture, and Data Science to shape and define the technical strategy for the Payments domain and your team's modules
3. Translate functional specifications into high-performance, logical technical designs and code
4. Promote a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team
5. Mentor and support team members in their professional development
6. Take an active role in recruitment and onboarding of new team members
7. Foster team engagement, belonging, and a collaborative identity
8. Work with technologies including Java 17, BigData (Kafka, BigTable, Redis, PostgreSQL), LLMs, Datamesh, Docker, Kubernetes, Google Cloud, Sonarqube, and Datadog

🛠️ Requirements

1. Strong knowledge of Java and coding best practices
2. Proven experience with coding, object-oriented design, system design, performance tuning, performance engineering, design patterns, and data modelling
3. Experience with distributed, concurrent, and scalable systems
4. Strong communication and influencing skills; able to present confidently to both technical and non-technical audiences
5. Ability to make fast, data-driven decisions
6. High standards for quality and technical excellence
7. Customer-focused mindset with the ability to deliver value efficiently
8. Demonstrated ability to develop and grow oneself and others

1. Experience using applied AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or other AI-powered coding assistants

4. Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new AI features and capabilities
