Job Description
We're looking for a Private Cloud Lead to combine people leadership with technical leadership, help grow an engineering team, and shape the future of a private cloud platform.
☁️ The team
The Private Cloud area provides foundational platforms and services that enable engineers to build, deploy, and operate applications securely and efficiently.
The teams develop and operate infrastructure and platform capabilities including:
- Self-service cloud provisioning
- Automation and networking
- Database platform services
- Container platform services
- Observability
- Engineering enablement
The organisation serves thousands of engineers globally and supports critical services. It is highly international, with engineers and leaders collaborating across several countries.
🎯 Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a chapter of 5–15 engineers, supporting their personal and professional growth as the team expands.
- Create an engaging, inclusive, and high-performing environment where people can thrive.
- Drive capability building, knowledge sharing, and engineering excellence across the chapter.
- Partner closely with Product Managers and fellow Chapter Leads to ensure the right skills and talent are available to achieve business objectives.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the tribe and continuously improve ways of working.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and talent development activities.
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Act as a role model for organisational values and engineering craftsmanship.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives, transformation efforts, or hands-on engineering work, depending on your background and expertise.
- Use your experience with database products such as Oracle, Cassandra, or PostgreSQL to support engineers, challenge technical decisions, and contribute to the future direction of services.
🛠️ Requirements
- Technical education, preferably in Information Technology.
- At least 10 years of technical experience in IT infrastructure.
- High-level English proficiency, C1 required.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across a large organisation.
- Diplomatic approach and confidence acting as a sparring partner for consumers and technology colleagues.
- A coaching mindset focused on supporting the learning and development of others.
- Proactive approach to improving your own and the team’s ways of working.
- Collaborative interpersonal style and ease working with others.
- Experience working in the IT infrastructure department of a large corporate organisation.
- Strong focus on serving and supporting consumers while avoiding technical debt and unnecessary special solutions.
➕ Nice to have
- Several years of demonstrable leadership experience, such as as a Lead Engineer, Project Leader, or hierarchical lead.
- Strong understanding of Agile-Scrum methodology.
- Hands-on experience with database products such as Oracle, Cassandra, or PostgreSQL.
