Job Description

We're looking for an experienced Data Platform Engineer to help scale and continuously improve the NN Data Analytics Platform (NNDAP) and Data Lab (NNDL).

NNDAP provides a governed, compliant, and cost-effective Azure lakehouse foundation, with reusable components for data extraction, ingestion, harmonization, and quality. NNDL is a managed Databricks environment that supports non-IT users with built-in governance and automation for data experimentation and insight generation.

🎯 Your impact

  • Build reusable software components that enable business units to create high-quality data systems and products.
  • Design and implement code used by more than 110 data engineers across 10 teams and 15 countries.
  • Help enable a data-driven organization by improving platform scalability, quality, and usability.

🛠️ Responsibilities

  • Refine, build, test, deploy, and automate core data components for the NNDAP and Data Lab products.
  • Provide standard, reusable solutions through a common code base for internal customers.
  • Understand the needs of customers across different business units and translate them into modular solutions that can serve the majority of users.
  • Collaborate with team members to brainstorm and design optimized data platform architectures.
  • Contribute to the product vision and promote continuous team learning.
  • Mentor colleagues and lead technical discussions.
  • Share knowledge across the data engineering community and participate in pair programming and collaborative coding.
  • Lead, guide, or participate in the NNDAP inner-source community.
  • Enable business teams to deliver successful data and AI projects.
  • Support and mentor junior engineers.

💻 Technologies

  • Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure and infrastructure as code (IaC)
  • Azure Data Factory (ADF) for pipelines and orchestration
  • Databricks for data processing and transformation
  • Python, including PySpark
  • SQL
  • CI/CD, packaging, testing, and IaC
  • Bicep; Pulumi is a plus

🛠️ Requirements

  • 5–7+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, data engineering, platform engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience building modular, testable, scalable, and easily consumable platforms.
  • Significant experience with Azure data and platform services, including ADLS, Delta Lake, Databricks, and ADF.
  • Proven experience delivering multi-tenant or productized data platforms.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including Python, PySpark, SQL, CI/CD, packaging, testing, and IaC.
  • Practical expertise in lakehouse and medallion architecture.
  • Experience with data quality, lineage and metadata, and cloud cost and performance optimization.
  • Awareness of security and governance requirements in regulated environments, including Unity Catalog, role- or attribute-based access, secrets, and policies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in an agile, cross-functional team.

➕ Nice to have

  • Experience with platform-level monitoring, observability, and lifecycle management (LCM).
  • Familiarity with event-driven patterns and streaming.
  • Experience with LakeFlow and its evolution alongside ADF.
  • Experience preparing platforms for API-driven data product exposure.
  • Knowledge of high-availability patterns.
  • Participation in communities such as a Data Engineering Guild.
